ZeroWaste Pittsburgh

For Special Events

Basic Preliminary: A no-charge review of your event’s recycling/waste minimization needs including general information on minimizing/reducing/diverting waste. A brief report that will identify potential waste reduction options and provide a list of resources for diversion of materials is included. This option is for events that anticipate less than 200 participants or for organizations that plan to staff and run their own event recycling. It requires talking with someone familiar with the event logistics. This includes:

    • Event overview
    • Written summary (1-2 pages)
    • Quote for more in depth services

Basic Intensive (For Fee): A more in depth and focused evaluation personalized to specifics of your event waste stream.

    • In depth waste audit
    • Site walk-through and mapping
    • Analysis and Evaluation
    • Written Report with prioritized recommendations, environmental benefits and estimated cost impacts

Staffing/Reporting (For Fee): This is where the recycling containers hit the ground and it’s time to draw upon the information gathered during the “Basic Intensive”. ZWP staff will put the recommendations into action and implement recycling/composting efforts at your event. This includes:

  • Collection containers and liners
  • Design and production of custom signage for recycling/composting efforts and/or public education
  • On-site coordination and staffing of collection efforts at event
  • Coordination with waste, recycling haulers and food banks
  • Lists of environmentally preferable products (compostable, recyclable, green, etc.) for your events service ware and printing services.
  • Monitoring; Green Certification is available for your event through ZWP's WRAC Program. This certification requires quantifiable measurement of your event’s waste diversion efforts. We include this monitoring during the event which will give your organization a record of the amount of materials gathered separated by type (recyclable, compostable) and the carbon equivalent impact of diversion and purchasing of environmentally preferable products.
