WRAC Certified Events

7/15/10 Love Your Watershed Day, brought to Pittsburgh by the Nine Mile Watershed Association, achieved a SILVER rating for their efforts for recycling, education and closing the loop at their June 5th event.
7/6/10 The Delta Foundation and Pride 2010 have achieved a level of GOLD for it's outdoor events; Pride in the Streets and Pride Festival. These two events occurred on June 12th and 13th. A crew from Zero Waste Pittsburgh was on site to help the event achieve compostable and recyclables diversion.
6/19/10 The South Waste PA Household Hazardous Waste collection event on May 1st achieved a level of BRONZE for its diversion of bottles, cans and cardboard as well as education on resource conservation.
6/5/10 The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy's May 1st Hat Luncheon, an annual fundraiser for the Conservancy, achieved SILVER level of certification by having Zero Waste Pittsburgh onsite to help ensure the diversion of food waste and recyclables.
5/17/10 The May 23rd Creek Connections Student Research Symposium, at YMCA camp Kon-O-Kee, earned a BRONZE level of accomplishment under the WRAC program. Students and local environmental professionals interacted and shared watershed related projects and displays created by NW Pennsylvania and SW New York students, grades 6-12.
5/12/10 Organizers of the Venture Outdoors Festival achieved a level of BRONZE for their efforts of providing recycling for the entire event that spanned part of Point State Park and the Mon Wharf. Participants at the May 22nd event, made successful by volunteers, enjoyed the many outdoor activities despite the intermittent passing rain.
5/11/10 At Allegheny College, the Creek Connections Student Research Symposium hosted presentations of watershed related projects created by NW Pennsylvania and SW New York students, grades 6-12, who participated in Creek Connections throughout this past school year. The May 16th event provided recyclables diversion, online registration as well as other waste reduction strategies which earned it a BRONZE level of accomplishment under the WRAC program.
5/10/10 Art All Night is a volunteer committee produced annual event that bills itself as free and uncensored. From Saturday April 24th 6:00 pm till Sunday 2:00 pm, Art from over hundreds of artists was on display during which food and beverage were served for both participants and staff. For its efforts the event achieved SILVER level of accomplishment.
5/7/10 Venture Outdoors, the organizer of the Banff Mountain Film Festival, made their annual 2 day film festival, with an extreme sports and outdoor themes, greener by providing recycling for all cans, bottles and cardboard generated during the event. They achieved a Waste Reduction Accomplishment Certification level of BRONZE.
5/5/10 The United Jewish Federation achieved a level SILVER for their emphasis on waste reduction at this years April 20th Israeli Independence Day Celebration. A crew from Zero Waste Pittsburgh was at the Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill to help the event achieve compostable and recyclables diversion.
5/04/10 The Parks Conservancy's Panther Hollow Earth Day Extravaganza applied for and achieved certification at the GOLD level in a partnership with Zero Waste Pittsburgh at their April 24th Earth Day Stewardship and Educational outreach celebration.
5/01/10 Organized by the Duquesne University Spiritan Campus Ministry and Pennsylvania Resources Council, the May 17th Clean Up involved litter cleanup activities in neighborhoods on the South Side and in Uptown. During the cleanup volunteers were fed breakfast and lunch which were the major target of the event's diversion effort which achieved a SILVER level of accomplishment.
4/28/10 The April 17th 2nd Annual Spring Planting Day up in North Park organized by the Sakura Project, achieved an accomplishment level of BRONZE for their efforts of recyclable diversion.
4/27/10 The Frick Environmental Center's 5th Annual Earth Day Celebration successfully achieved GOLD level of accomplishment for its work diverting compostables, recyclable and reusable items from the landfill. In the spirit of Earth Day, the organizers succeeded in minimizing the impact of the event on the Earth.
3/25/10 The Clean Pittsburgh Commission's March Meet & Greet is the first officially ZWP certified event. The event organizer's efforts diverted compostables, recycled and earned a GOLD rating under the WRAC program.

WRAC Applied Events

7/20/10 The Allegheny County's Green & Innovation Festival, featuring "sustainable living and innovation in all forms", has applied for certification through the WRAC program. This August 14th event will happen at the Hartwood Acres Amphitheater.
7/15/10 Scenic Pittsburgh, a project of the Pennsylvania Resources Council, has registered for certification under the Zero Waste Pittsburgh Certification program for a June 22nd planning meeting.
7/7/10 The Rachel Carson Homestead Association has applied for certification of their August 29th Sustainability Festival on the Rachel Carson Bridge (9th Street) in downtown Pittsburgh.
5/18/10 The Three Rivers Arts Festival has submitted to certify the waste reduction efforts at it's 10 day long event that starts Friday June 4th and goes until June 13th. They have contracted with Zero Waste Pittsburgh in order to achieve compostable and recyclables diversion at the event.
4/22/10 The viewing of the movie "Fresh" organized by Grow Pittsburgh and E2 has applied for certification for its April 27th event. Participants will be served local foods prepared by Chef Kate Romane and a learn how they can be more involved in our own local food system.
4/17/10 Pittsburgh Zoo organizers of the "Party for the Planet" are looking to certify their efforts of waste reduction at their April 24th Earth Day celebration.
3/26/10 Organizers of the Mount Lebanon annual Earth Day event have applied for certification of their April 24th Earth Day celebration.
3/16/10 The Creating a Climate for Justice event organizers, Penn Future, have applied for Waste Reduction Certification for their May 2 event.
